Intercity Bus

The North Carolina Department of Transportation’s (NCDOT’s) Intercity Bus program serves Wilmington, offering regional and long-distance travel across North Carolina and beyond. NCDOT’s Intercity Bus Network consists of 13 routes with over 50 stops throughout the state. Service is operated by Greyhound Lines and Sunway Charters. The service operates 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Buses are ADA accessible and include restroom facilities.

The Wilmington Intercity Bus stop is located at 505 Cando St, 28405 Wilmington, NC and can be accessed via Wave Transit fixed route services.

Wilmington is along the Coastal Plains Connector, the Dogwood Dasher, and the Wave Rider Intercity Bus Routes.

Amtrak Thruway Service

Passenger rail service does not currently serve Wilmington, but intercity buses connect to the train station in Wilson, NC (401 E. Nash St. Wilson, NC 27893), where riders can board the following Amtrak routes:

#79 Carolinian (heading from New York to Charlotte, see schedule)
#80 Carolinian (heading from Charlotte to New York, see schedule)
#89 Palmetto (heading from New York to Savannah, GA, see schedule)
#90 Palmetto (heading from Savannah, GA to New York, see schedule)

Only people booking a train ticket can access the Amtrak Thruway Service, which connects Forden Station in Wilmington to the train station in Wilson. When booking a trip online, via the Amtrak app, or by phone (1-800-USA-RAIL), select Wilmington as the start/end destination for mixed service (Thruway bus and the train – these are booked in the same transaction). Amtrak tickets cannot be purchased at Forden Station.
