Intercity bus service from Forden Station travels across the state and connects to Amtrak in Wilson.

Intercity Bus

Intercity bus service for Wilmington is available from Wave Transit’s Forden Station (505 Cando St, Wilmington, NC 28405) for travel across North Carolina or cities throughout the contiguous United States.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) contracts with Greyhound Lines and Sunway Charters to operate 11 routes throughout North Carolina to provide safe, reliable, and comfortable transportation in coach buses that include restroom facilities and are ADA accessible.​ Read more on NCDOT’s Intercity Bus Service webpage and view the statewide intercity bus service map.

There are three NCDOT-subsidized Greyhound routes serving Wilmington:

Wave Transit does not sell or manage Greyhound tickets. Tickets can be purchased online at Greyhound.com.

Amtrak Thruway Service

Passenger rail service does not currently serve Wilmington, but intercity buses connect to the train station in Wilson, NC (401 E. Nash St. Wilson, NC 27893), where riders can board the following Amtrak routes:

 

  • #89 Palmetto (heading from New York to Savannah, GA), departing from Wilson daily at 4:48 p.m.
  • #79 Carolinian (heading from New York to Charlotte), departing from Wilson daily at 5:07 p.m.
  • #80 Carolinian (heading from Charlotte to New York), departing from Wilson daily at 11:18 a.m.
  • #90 Palmetto (heading from Savannah, GA to New York), departing from Wilson daily at 1:43 p.m.

Only people booking a train ticket can access the Amtrak Thruway Service. When booking a trip online, via the Amtrak app, or by phone (1-800-USA-RAIL), select Wilmington as the start/end destination for mixed service (Thruway bus and the train – these are booked in the same transaction). Amtrak tickets cannot be purchased at Forden Station.
