Get There Greener 2024

Go Coast’s Get There Greener challenge is an annual event that encourages WMPO Area residents to move sustainably during the month of October! Traffic congestion is a major cause of air pollution and much of our stress. We challenge you to use an SOV (single-occupancy vehicle) as little as possible and instead utilize alternative transportation like biking, walking, carpool, transit, and telecommuting. Participants can win prizes like gift cards to local businesses.

This year we are also hosting Bike to Work Day on Friday, October 11!

Thank you to our 2024 sponsors so far: Bluewater Waterfront Grill, Carolina Ale House, Flytrap Brewing, Henry’s, Oceanic Restaurant, Ogden Tap Room, Thalian Hall, Two Wheeler Dealer, Wave Transit, and Wilmington Brewing Company. Want to donate gift cards or other items to support Get There Greener? Email Carolyn Caggia at carolyn.caggia@wilmingtonnc.gov or call (910) 341-4661.

How to Participate

1. Sign up to participate – submit your email on this interest form, and we’ll email you when the challenge starts and send reminders to track your trips.

2. Report your sustainable miles on this tracking form. Track each time you use anything other than driving alone to get around between October 1 and 31. Report after each trip, weekly, or at the end of the challenge, it’s up to you. Participants can track every time they use the following transportation modes:

  • Carpooling
  • Public transportation
  • Bicycling
  • Walking
  • Telecommuting

If you’re new to alternative transportation and need help taking a trip by bike or bus, check out our personalized commuter plan form where we will give you customized step-by-step directions on what to do.

3. Have fun and good luck winning those sweet prizes! 🙂
